# Interpret the table. Is the hypothesis supported or not? Explain, making explicit use of percentages from the table in your explanation. Do not forget about statistical significance.

I’m stuck on a Political Science question and need an explanation.

A research project on the relationship between democratization and human rights produced the following crosstab. The researchers were testing the hypothesis that the more constraints there are on the executive, the less political imprisonment (jailing of political opponents). The Chi-Square is 19.083, and the p-value or probability value or Pr. is .001. The unit of analysis is a country. The independent variable is the amount of constraints on the executive in that country. The dependent variable is the amount of political prisoners per 100,000 people in that country.

Interpret the table. Is the hypothesis supported or not? Explain, making explicit use of percentages from the table in your explanation. Do not forget about statistical significance.

 Executive With Little to No Constraints Moderately Constrained Executive Highly Constrained Executive More than 50 political prisoners per 100,000 people 5 50% 6 14.3% 5 8.2% 21 to 50 political prisoners per 100,000 people 5 50% 28 66.7% 31 50.8% 0 to 20 political prisoners per 100,000 people 0 0% 8 19% 25 41.0% Total 10 100.0% 42 100% 61 100%
