OBJECTIVE:
The objective of this assignment is to provide you with experience in systematic instructional design. You are tasked to plan and design instructions using suitable instructional design models.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Prepare a design document according to the questions below. Your answer must be related to your subject area and expertise. You are to elaborate and provide the necessary evidence for this design document. This document will also be the basis for the development of instructional materials in Assignment 2.

As the foundations for ICT are strengthened in the Malaysian education system, the Ministry will study additional opportunities to transform ICT usage in the classroom such as through EduWeb TV. This includes also scaling up best practices from areas of excellence and innovation identified in Wave 1. The Ministry will also update its strategy to reflect new findings from international research on how to leverage ICT in developing higher-order thinking skills.

In line with the need to incorporate ICT as an enabler for teaching and learning, the Malaysian National Education Philosophy stipulated that:

Education in Malaysia is an on-going effort towards further developing the potential of individuals in a holistic and integrated manner, so as to produce individuals who are intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and physically balanced and harmonious, based on a firm belief in and devotion to God. Such an effort is designed to produce Malaysian citizens who are knowledgeable and competent, who possess high moral standards, and who are well responsible and capable of achieving high level of personal well-being as well as being able to contribute to the harmony and betterment of the family, the society and the nation at large.

As an instructional designer, you are tasked to design a suitable instructional environment to fulfil the objectives of ICT under the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013 – 2025 and the Malaysian Education Philosophy in the context of teaching and learning conducted in schools or any education institution. Your instructional environment may be related to a particular subject area of your choice, or can be non-specific and focused on developing teaching and learning skills in general, or one domain of this teaching and learning skill.

The design of the instructional environment will assist you in selecting and determining suitable instructional materials to be developed in Assignment 2.

Your design document must include the following criteria:

a)      The required instructional environment to achieve the objectives of the Malaysia Education Blueprint focusing on aspects related to teaching and learning. (You are to provide evidence from supporting documents and other literature).
(10 marks)

b)      Further, Description and elaboration on the context of the general characteristics of teachers and learners who will be exposed to the instructional environment that you have designed. Corroborate your description with data from interviews and/or surveys. (10 marks)

c)      A suitable instructional goal of the task for the teachers and learners to follow within your context. Based on this instructional goal, you will need to do the following:
i.             a goal analysis to demonstrate the kinds of learning required to achieve this National Philosophy of Education.
ii.           also, the performance objectives for achieving the goal. (15 marks)

d)      The most relevant performance objectives related to the goal from section (c) above. Based on this performance objective to achieve your goal, you will need to design the following:
i.             relevant assessment methods
ii.           also, instructional strategies
Give  your rationale for the choice of the assessment and instructional strategies you have designed.
