What was the significance of the Battle of Guadalcanal?

The reason Guadalcanal is significant is because it marks the first reversal of Japanese expansion in the Pacific theatre of war and the beginning of America’s road to victory on its western flank.

The capture of Guadalcanal and it’s airfield enabled a permanent base for the expansion of American combat power.It put other Japanese island bastion’s within reach of American air and naval power.And it would prove a template for more American amphibious operations,
